I am so amazed at the support the Clea Salavert Library for Lalomanu Primary School has been receiving and continues to receive. While the Australian Academy of the Humanities was the first to back the idea and to offer to act as the point of reception for donations by creating the Lalomanu Library Fund, now it is Clea’s own school, Amaroo School, and the Gungahlin Out Of School Hours Care - two places where Clea loved to be - who have started their own appeal for donations.

On Friday 12 February, the Lalomanu School Library appeal in honour of Clea will be launched at the school assembly. The Amaroo School Library staff has designed the poster you can see above. The photo on the right was taken at Lalomanu Primary. With this appeal, Amaroo School and Gungahlin Out Of School Hours Care are inviting the school community and the Gungahlin community at large to donate quality children’s books and stationery items. Cash donations will also be accepted at the front office. Defence parents whose children attend Amaroo School have offered to cover the books with plastic contact, as the high humidity of Samoa would damage unprotected books very quickly.

I must also make mention of the kind offer by Universal Express to store the books until their transportation to Samoa is possible. This offer came from the Universal Express manager, Steve Evans. Thank you, Steve.

Westpac Pacific Banking already delivered 3 boxes of books back in December, as soon as the project started to take some sort of shape. Westpac staff in Auckland have also made a substantive monetary donation. I’m quite confident more news on this front will soon be made public.

The Samoan Government has offered compensation to the victims of the 29 September tsunami. Every cent we received from them has been redirected to the Lalomanu Library Fund.

I think it is fitting we express our gratitude to everyone who has helped, is helping and will be helping in the future to make the project possible. Everything counts: whether by way of donations, be it in cash or in books, or by assisting in protecting the donated books with plastic wrapping, or by storing the books while they have to remain in Australia. Estoy verdaderamente asombrado por el apoyo al que se ha hecho acreedora y continúa recibiendo la Biblioteca Clea Salavert en Lalomanu Primary School. Así como la Academia Australiana de las Humanidades fue la primera en acoger con entusiasmo nuestra idea y ofrecerse como punto de recepción de donativos al crear el Lalomanu Library Fund, ahora son la escuela a la que asistía Clea, Amaroo School, y Gungahlin Out Of School Hours Care - dos lugares donde a Clea le encantaba estar - los que han dado inicio a su propio llamamiento a realizar donaciones.

El viernes 12 de febrero se efectuará el lanzamiento de la campaña de captación de donativos para la Biblioteca Clea Salavert en la asamblea general de la escuela. El personal de la Biblioteca de Amaroo ha diseñado el poster que se ve arriba. La foto de la derecha se tomó en Lalomanu Primary. Con esta campaña, Amaroo School y Gungahlin Out Of School Hours Care invitan a la comunidad escolar y a los barrios de Gungahlin en general a donar libros infantiles en buen estado y artículos escolares en general. También es posible efectuar donativos en efectivo en la oficina principal. Un grupo de padres que trabajan para el Ministerio de Defensa cuyos niños asisten a Amaroo School se han ofrecido para recubrir los libros con envoltorio plástico, puesto que la alta humedad del clima samoano dañaría los libros muy rápido.

Debo hacer mención también del ofrecimiento que la empresa de mensajería y transporte de Canberra Universal Express ha hecho para almacenar los libros hasta que sea posible transportarlos a Apia. Este ofrecimiento se debe a su director, Steve Evans. Gracias, Steve.

Westpac Pacific Banking ya había hecho entrega de 3 cajas de libros en diciembre, tan pronto como el proyecto empezó de alguna manera a cuajar. El personal de Westpac en Auckland hizo también un donativo bastante sustancial. Y estoy bastante seguro de que muy pronto podremos hacer públicas más noticias en este frente.

Por otra parte, el Gobierno de Samoa ofreció compensación económica a las víctimas del tsunami del pasado 29 de septiembre. Todo lo que hemos recibido de Samoa ha sido ingresado en el Lalomanu Library Fund.

Pienso que es apropiado que expresemos nuestra gratitud a todos los que han ayudado, los que están ayudando y ayudarán en el futuro por hacer posible este proyecto.
